The State of Pennsylvania certainly has Paranormal ‘hot zones’ with actual documentation and videos to verify the paranormal activity not only by the locals but visitors and professional paranormal research groups.

Pennsylvania had one of the bloodiest Civil War battles ever fought and named Gettysburg; and is named as one of the top ten most haunted places in America. Ghostly civil war soldiers can be seen and cannons can be heard in the distance. The paranormal ghostly activity is caused by the emotional energy of what happened. The loss of life was so tremendous at Gettysburg during the three-day battle in July of 1863 than anywhere else on US soil. The ‘Devil’s Den’ is a site of the battlefield that took place on the second day and the apparition of a soldier has been seen by visitors.

The Quality Inn at General Lees headquarters is extremely haunted with actual visual quest experiences; such as doors and kitchen cabinet doors move, and objects in the room move about by unseen hands. Another site is the Sachs Bridge in Gettysburg, where three confederate soldiers were hung and the ghosts of these men visit the bridge.

The Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a site that has visitors realizing that the paranormal is a reality. The locals call it ‘the haunted house within a prison.’

These are just a few of the places most common but because of Pennsylvania’s rich history, there are many homes, buildings and sites that bear witness to the paranormal.

A paranormal investigation is conducted in several ways. Started generally, with research of the reported sites history, who lived there and what events have taken place at the location. A report of paranormal activity, sets the guidelines for the research that will be conducted.

In the course of an investigation, many pieces of hi-tech equipment are utilized. Some of which are electromagnetic field meters, digital voice recorders and forward looking infrared radar. The use of these tools will help investigators to capture, evidence of paranormal activity.

Electromagnetic fields (EMF) have been associated with paranormal activity. EMF meters are used to measure these fields, in areas around locations that have reported activity. Is this new to you? Catch up here Digital voice recorders are often used during an investigation, to capture electronic voice phenomenon (EVP). The theory of an EVP, is that an entity will try to communicate on a frequency that may not be heard at the time, by human ears. By studying the recordings that are made while trying to make contact, often voices that were not heard at the time can be detected. Drops in temperature, have been linked to activity also. The use of forward looking infrared radar (FLIR) can detect hot and cold spots with in a reported location.

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is a hot spot for paranormal activity. The city is surrounded by battlefield monuments and cemeteries whose markers stand in silent tribute to the suffering and devastating losses during the Battle of Gettysburg. One of the most haunted areas of the battlefield is an area known as Devils Den. Countless photographs have been taken there as evening descends showing unexplained streaks of light and glowing orbs.

However, paranormal activity is not limited to the outdoors in Gettysburg. The Soldiers Museum is located in a city building which was occupied during the time of the battle. It now contains memorabilia from both Union and Confederate troops. As spooky as these displays are, they do not compare to the chilling secret in the basement of this building. At one time during the building’s history, it was operated as an orphanage. The orphanage was run by a cruel headmistress named Rosa Carmichael. Many claims of violence and possible murder finally drove Rosa out of town. Perhaps she never quite left though. Visitors today report feeling touched or poked and hearing unexplained voices when in the basement.

Paranormal activity abounds in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Visitors can choose from many haunted areas, both outdoors and indoors, to catch a glimpse of a ghost.
